Classification Of Musical Instruments

Posted by admin on September 7, 2009 at 1:41 pm

All people enjoy one or the other kind of music. Music has a soothing effect on the body and the mind. It also has some healing capabilities which medicine and science have been trying to decipher for years. Music can be enjoyed and learned by people of all age groups. A large number of music schools have come up in the recent years which teach interested persons how to play different types of instruments.

Before you set to buy a musical instrument or even learn one, you need to know about the different types of musical instruments that exist.

a) Wind instruments:
Sound is produced in these instruments when a column of air is made to vibrate inside them. These instruments are further divided into brass and woodwind instruments. The length of the column of air and the shape of the instrument play a major role in determining the frequency of the wave generated. Different tones are produced depending on the construction of the instrument and method of tone production.

b) Percussion instruments:
Sound is produced in these instruments by simply striking them. The sound produced in this case may or may not be of high pitch. The cavity of the instrument surrounding the area where it is struck vibrates and sound is produced. The shape and material of the instrument also decide the type of sound produced form this instrument.

c) String instruments:
These instruments produce sound when the string is disturbed from its original position by the application of force. The length of the vibrating string, the mass, tension and the point at which the string is excited determine the frequency of the sound produced. The tone of sound produced by these instruments can vary depending on the shape and resonating cavity construction of each instrument.

A Fine Piano Music Box Is A Work Of Art

Posted by admin on August 20, 2009 at 5:18 pm

Music boxes have always come in all shapes and sizes. Some are small enough to fit in your hand, while others are designed to hold jewelry, and still others are large enough to stand alone like a piece of furniture. Wood, metal, glass, and stone; jewelry boxes are familiar to all of us. Equally familiar is the musical jewelry box. In fact, it is almost rare to see one without the other. A piano music box is another variation on that theme, and what a unique and intriguing variation it is!

A piano music box is exactly that; a music box shaped like a piano. But its appeal extends well beyond its familiar shape and the songs it plays. Some piano music boxes are simple enough; the least expensive models are often just a standard music box inside a case that resembles a piano. And like many other music boxes, they often have room to hold trinkets and jewelry. But it is the expensive, hand crafted models that are so unique and interesting, they have to be seen to be believed.

How to Extend the Battery Life of your Ipod

Posted by admin on July 23, 2009 at 8:43 am

Listening to your iPod on those very long trips can be a fantastic way to pass the time, until you run out of juice. The silence of a drained iPod can really ruin the rest of the trip so here are a few tips to make your iPod last considerably longer when you do not have charging facilities.

Firstly, make sure that you do not have anywhere to charge your iPod on trips. Most cars, trains, planes and even some buses will have some sort of power socket to recharge an iPod. All you will need is a compatible iPod mains charger.

If you find yourself in a situation where there are no power sockets from which you could recharge from, immediately check that you have made the following changes to your iPod.

Music – Everyone Has Different Tastes

Posted by admin on July 18, 2009 at 5:49 am

We all have our varying tastes in music. This is probably why it takes a lot of patience for you to live with someone who happens to have the worst preference in sound. Over the centuries, classics were turned to blues, blues to ballads, ballads to rock and rock to hiphop.

As you listen to more genres of music, the more that you will begin to appreciate how creative and inspiring it has become. Of course, we want you to enjoy your own music so we won’t force you to like any genre in particular. But if you read on with the rest of what we have to say, you might find it in you to appreciate other types of music as well.

Just be open. That’s the entire idea of appreciating various genres of music. Listen to classical, jazz, country and R&B. You do not necessarily have to buy every CD’s you see in record bars. Most stores allow you to get a preview of the actual album and hear for yourself how the songs fair. Each song aims to convey a particular meaning, and can sometimes be quite difficult to digest.

How To Learn Piano Chords

Posted by admin on July 16, 2009 at 9:19 am

Recent studies have shown that the ‘well’ of music can never be exhausted. With all the variations in notes, timing and alterations the combinations that can theoretically exist are so close to infinite as to make no difference. Therefore, it seems reasonable to assume that you can come up with new music relatively easily.

And you can. By ‘chording’ a song at a piano, you can invent all types of new music simply and effectively. When I use the phrase ‘chord a song’, what I am referring to is the ability to play roughly three or four chords on a piano whilst someone else sings the tune. It sounds easy, and it’s actually easier to do in practice, and you don’t need to be a concert pianist in order to do it!

Did you know, for example, that all of the songs we have listed below (along with scores of hundreds more) can be played by using just a few chords? The only thing you really have to know how to do is play a couple of very basic chords and be able to move rhythmically back and forth between them.

The Black Eyed Peas Are No Where Near "The E.N.D." Of Their Career

Posted by admin on July 14, 2009 at 3:33 pm

The Black Eyed Peas just released their latest, fifth album to mixed reviews, perhaps because some fans have now gotten away from the music of the BEP’s and perhaps because they have gotten to listen to Fergie on her own, a few people were disappointed in this album, however it must be said that this seems to be some of their best collaborative work to date.

The sound is not revolutionary, but familiar.  They are offering up a new danceable play list which includes some similarity to hits past.  If you like their music however, you wont be disappointed, because however similar this music is to tracks that have past, the current sounds are still a bit different and the lyrics range from the moving to the bizarre.

The E.N.D., which stands for Energy Never Dies, includes fifteen tracks from hip hop to booty shaking.  It has a heavy beat party sound, more then any album they have done in the past.  Even if you are not a dancer, these tracks will have you wanting to get out of your seat and joining everyone on the dance floor.

The Coming Michael Jackson Manslaughter Trial

Posted by admin on July 13, 2009 at 1:01 am

Michael Jackson’s sudden death was a shock to everyone; his family, his fans, his business associates and colleagues.  From the start Michael’s death appeared suspicious with varying rumors of prescription drug abuse, a live-in doctor and strange 911 call and even evidence the singer had been having nightly anesthesia in order to induce sleep from chronic insomnia.  As the celebration of his life and moving funeral move into the background, I feel it is almost inevitable that there will be at the very least a wrongful death trial and very likely manslaughter or murder charges brought upon one or more individuals within the coming weeks.

Why There Will Be a Trial

A man of such enormous celebrity, success and means as Michael Jackson leaves a tremendous mark on society and the many lives he affects.  Michael’s special place in the popular lexicon will mean the Jackson family will do everything they can to protect the sacred memory of Michael and pursue with vigor any doctors that might have broken laws with their prescribing or medication use that contributed to Michael’s death.  In addition, with a 50 concert tour worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and reported hundreds of millions in debts owed by Jackson, there is tremendous financial incentive to pursue anyone in which there is a remote possibility of responsibility for his death.

Choosing A Musical Instrument For Your Child

Posted by admin on June 8, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Many parents want to encourage their children to learn to play a musical instrument, to encourage their musical development.

The first instrument is often a music keyboard. These are reasonably priced and stimulate an interest in music even in very young children. Ask your school music teacher for advice, because some of the very low cost keyboards are very limited. The higher priced keyboards play notes softer if they are hit less hard, more like a piano.

Your child may enjoy the sound of a particluar instrument. This can be a major motivational factor, so it is a good idea to go with the child’s ideas, at least initially. Many children change the instrument they play in the first few years of their music education.

Many children may find it easier to play woodwind instruments like a clarinet than brass instruments like trumpets and trombones. Woodwind instruments do not require the lip vibrations that brass players need.

Most children’s choice of instrument is a matter of chance. It depends on what instrument is favored by visiting music tutors.

There are more professional violinists than players of any other instrument. This is one reason parents often encourage their children to take up the violin. Buying a violin is a tricky business.
